North Carolina? Not really, and yet it is so very similar in many ways- that is until you enter the local hospital. Now we have our local sheriff, local drunk, and a few visitors from time to time, but that may be where the similarities end.
I am an RN, playing in the local, not-so-small town ED- and actually like what I do. No, it is not glamorous, nor is it quiet. But each day is an adventure that I am excited to run with.
No, Toto we are not in Kansas anymore, nor are we anywhere near Mayberry-- somewhat West, though not far enough.
ERs have the honor of being on the front lines-- the staff, in the midst of chaos attempts to bring calm, saves lives, and somewhere in the process creates order.
This environment requires a certain personality type-- often type A-- with a twist. A sense of humor, warped as it may be. No, we are not necessarily funny individuals, but rather we are able to see the humor in everyday life- and in the downright strange situations that we encounter.
The other thing that makes us unique-- We are a team, we work well together from the physician to the tech- each role is vital, each makes a difference.
So that everyone is clear, my thoughts and stories contained within this sphere are composites of experiences I have had in many years of practice. Any resemblance to people, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Events portrayed as recent are not, events that resemble your life are not your story. I do not know you now, nor ever have.
